Routine Vaccinations

Vaccines are a critical defense against preventable diseases. At CareMEDICA, we offer immunizations for most vaccine-preventable conditions, following the adult immunization schedule updated annually by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Some vaccines are recommended for nearly all adults, while others are targeted for specific populations based on age, health status, or risk factors.

Adults Need Vaccinations Too

Many adults assume that vaccines received in childhood provide lifelong protection. In reality:

Some adults were never fully vaccinated as children
New vaccines have been developed since childhood
Immunity from certain vaccines can diminish over time
Aging increases susceptibility to serious infections, such as influenza and pneumococcal disease

CareMEDICA provides annual influenza clinics, typically held on Saturdays during September, October, and November. Ask your provider for details or to schedule your vaccination.

Key Adult Vaccinations

Influenza Vaccine (Flu Shot)

The annual flu shot protects against seasonal influenza by stimulating the immune system to recognize and fight the virus. The vaccine is updated each year to match circulating strains, helping reduce the risk of infection and severe complications. Influenza vaccination is especially important for seniors, young children, pregnant women, and patients with chronic medical conditions.

Shingrix® (Shingles Vaccine)

Shingrix is an FDA-approved vaccine that prevents shingles in adults. It is recommended for:

Adults 50 and older with healthy immune systems
Adults 18 and older who are immunocompromised

Shingrix is administered in two doses, 2–6 months apart, for optimal protection.

Prevnar 20® (Pneumococcal Vaccine)

Prevnar 20® provides protection against 20 strains of bacteria that cause pneumococcal pneumonia. It is recommended for:

Adults 65 and older
Adults 19 and older with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, COPD, chronic heart disease, or chronic kidney disease

Prevnar 20® is given as a single dose and provides long-lasting protection.
